Most Popular Baby Names: Jacob, Sophia Top Latest List

Jacob and Sophia were the most popular names for babies born in 2011, the Social Security Administration revealed on Monday. The annual list was peppered with names from the Bible and from pop culture, with a surprising among of influence from Reality TV.

Jacob topped the list for boys names for the 13th year in a row, but there were a few surprises in the Top 10: For the first time since 1948, Michael is no longer in the top five and Anthony (a Top 10 favorite in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010) has dropped off the list. But Mason made its Top 10 debut as the second most-popular boys name in 2011 — and yes, that’s the name of Kourtney Kardashian’s first-born child. Coincidence?

Homes of country music stars

Last year’s collection of 10 Homes of Country Music Stars barely scratched the surface of the number of performers’ homes on the market, recently sold, being purchased or getting unloaded.

What follows is a fresh batch of houses, mansions and compounds belonging to 5 performers, including music-making married couples. This collection showcases houses of the young’uns (“American Idol” alumni), the stars who dominated the charts in the 1990s and classic country stars.

Bayern Munich’s Champions League dream final turned into a nightmare as Chelsea ruined their homecoming party to leave the German giants trophy-less for the second season in a row.

Chelsea’s dramatic 4-3 victory on penalties at the Allianz Arena, after the match finished 1-1 following extra time, ended Bayern’s dreams of a fifth European title and their first Champions League crown since 2001.

“It’s like a nightmare,” admitted Bayern’s director of sport Christian Nerlinger.

“When you see how the game played itself out, it’s like a bad film.

“This is frustrating and depressing to digest. This defeat is very difficult to take.”

The Bavarian giants have now lost two of the last three Champions League finals following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Jose Mourinho-coached Inter Milan in Madrid in 2010.

MUNICH (AP) — You can’t keep Didier Drogba down.

The charismatic striker was at the heart of Chelsea’s unlikely comeback victory in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Saturday night, scoring the tying goal in the 88th minute and the winner on the final penalty kick of the 4-3 shootout.

With two minutes to go and Chelsea down 1-0 to the German team in its home stadium, Drogba soared high from a corner to head home the equalizer and force 30 minutes of extra time, which ended 1-1.

When it was still level after four penalty kicks each, the 34-year-old from Ivory Coast who makes a habit of scoring crucial goals did so again, sliding home the winner and giving Chelsea its first Champions League title.

MUNICH (AP) — Lots of money, lots of luck, and players who didn’t care about winning ugly — just so long as they won — turned Chelsea into the champions of Europe.

The money, of course, is Roman Abramovich’s. The billionaire finally got his hands on the shiny trophy with big ears he so coveted. A bargain at $1.2 billion and counting.

That’s roughly how much of his wealth the Russian has poured into the London club he bought in 2003, filling the heads of Chelsea fans with dreams of such special nights and scenes like these.

Striker Didier Drogba, scorer of the late goal that kept Chelsea in the game in normal time and of the penalty that won it after extra time ended with a 1-1 draw, ran across the pitch with the Champions League trophy in his arms and delight on his face.

Bayern Munich take on Chelsea in the Champions League

MUNICH (Reuters) – Bayern Munich take on Chelsea in the Champions League final later on Saturday, with the Germans hoping to become European kings for the fifth time and the English attempting to reach the pinnacle of the game for the first time ever.

Both teams have a string of suspensions, with Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes missing three key players and Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo having to replace four.

Should Bayern win their first Champions League title since 2001, they will become the first team since Inter Milan in 1965 to lift the European Cup at home, and only the third to do so since the competition started out as the European Champions Cup in 1955-56.
